Album Review: Fog Lake – virgo indigo

You could say that a lot of lo-fi songs sound as if they were recorded in the artist’s bedroom, but how many of them actually do that? I have no clue. But I do know that Aaron Powell, the man behind Fog Lake, claims to record all of his songs in bedrooms, or so his Last.fm page says. Regardless of whether or not that’s true, his music does give off a vibe of coziness that could be associated with bedrooms, I guess.

Powell’s newest album, virgo indigo, follows in this mellow vein with its gauzy guitars and vocals. Even its track listing suggests this, featuring songs with names like “dream gate” and “nocturnal blues.” It’s a buoyant sort of mellow, though, particularly on tracks like the aptly-named “pretty lights,” so maybe this album would make for a good listen as winter transitions into spring. My favorite track, “it was never enough,” falls on the more somber end of the spectrum, but it’s still a lovely song. Listen to it here:

You can listen to and buy the full album at Fog Lake’s Bandcamp, and like him on Facebook for more chill vibes.
